Liwonde National Park offers one of the densest concentrations of wildlife in Africa.
It is located about 100 miles north of Blantyre and only rather more than half that distance from the hotels on the Mangochi Lakeshore.
A traditional African wildlife reserve, Liwonde National Park is home to a diverse array of fascinating mammals and rich birdlife, which colours the sombre bushveld.
Due to its unspoilt environment and prolific game, Liwonde National Park is generally regarded as the best game reserve in Malawi.
Majete Wildlife Reserve Safari Lodges:
Majete Wildlife Reserve is Malawi’s premier wildlife destination.
Majete is an incredible story of a safari reserve, once in decline, transformed into a haven for wildlife.
Herds of zebra, buffalo, kudu, sable antelope, and other large mammals thrive, providing a healthy prey base for lions.
Elephants bathe in the waters of the Shire River whilst hippos wallow nearby.
Nyika National Park Safari Lodges:
Nyika National Park is the oldest and largest game park in Malawi.
The Nyika National Park is in Northern Malawi and covers the entire Nyika Plateau.
It boasts spectacular scenery with blankets of wildflowers and more than 200 species of orchids, while it has an incredible diversity of wildlife.
The name “Nyika” means “where the water comes from” and is, indeed, one of Malawi’s most important catchment areas.
Nyika National Park is characterized by scenic mountain landscapes and endless grasslands.
Highlights in the park include the Juniper Forest, a particular area in the national park where a forest reserve has been proclaimed to protect the Juniperus Procera, the southernmost species of the tree in Africa.
